Establishment of Bruce R. Bistrian Nutrition Mentorship Award and Lecture

Bruce BistrianThe ASPEN Board of Directors is pleased to announce the creation of the Bruce R. Bistrian Nutrition Mentorship Award in honor of past president, Bruce R. Bistrian, MD, PhD, MPH, for his pivotal role in the advancement of clinical nutrition research and mentorship.

Dr. Bistrian was a principal or co-principal investigator of 18 federal research grant awards between 1975 through 2006 and has over 600 peer-reviewed publications. In 2003, Dr. Bistrian presented the Jonathan E. Rhoads Lecture, and was the recipient of the ASPEN Mentorship Award in 2018. He currently serves as board member emeritus on the ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation Board of Directors.

“Dr. Bistrian has trained 200 physicians and scientists in nutrition and metabolism during his exceptional career at Harvard Medical School. I am very grateful to have completed a nutrition and metabolism fellowship under his guidance. To this day, he remains my most important mentor, who has been instrumental in shaping my academic career.” said ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation President M. Molly McMahon, MD.

The Bruce R. Bistrian Nutrition Mentorship Award recognizes a clinician or scientist working in complex clinical nutrition who has made a significant contribution to the field and serves as a mentor to interprofessional colleagues. In addition to the recognition, the award winner will present a lecture at the ASPEN Nutrition Science & Practice Conference, Friday, April 21 in Las Vegas, NV.
